Congratulations! Not only on your successful admission to law school, but for choosing the best law school in the world.
This year’s Orientation Week festivities have a special quality to them. Our community is not unique in that it has been impacted and forever changed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated lockdowns. Every community, in one way or another, has endured adversity in these arduous months. 2021 Coachellaw represents hope and a transition point between lockdown law school and a return to some semblance of normalcy.
Western Law’s 2021 Coachellaw will serve as a transition point for many of you. Your attendance during our Orientation Week’s academic and social programming will serve as a tangible culmination of the many challenges and obstacles that you have overcome during your personal admission processes. We as your co-Chairs encourage you to experience this week to its fullest. This is your opportunity to get to know your colleagues and build relationships that will hopefully span lifetimes.
We would be remiss if we did not go into detail about the three years ahead of you. 2024 may seem quite far away, but the next three years will pass by rather quickly. You will find that law school is a special blend of challenge and reward. There is nothing quite like having the light bulb moment after spending countless hours on the same concept.
In your first few months, you will hear all about how law school changes how you think. We will refrain from adding on to this. We will instead emphasize our community. Whether in your small group or within our numerous extra-curricular activities, you are bound to find like-minded and driven peers that will bring the best in you. With time, you will find that support systems will be created organically. You will never be alone.
If you have not experienced this with your 3L mentor yet, you will soon find that our community is what makes Western Law so great. Upper-year students will share their notes and advice freely. Our Student Legal Society (SLS), through the tireless work of many, has started and maintained a summary drive for all students to use. Our many clubs have continued support from upper years and alumni. New clubs are added each year that allow you to explore any and all of your interests. We are confident that you will find your place at Western Law and hope that Chambers (our food service/lounge area on the ground floor) will feel like a second home.

If you find that you have any questions, comments, queries, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us. Your JPs (upper-year O-Week student leaders) or any upper-year student will be more than happy to provide guidance as well.
Please, do not pre-read for your courses. Enjoy the last few days of summer. We cannot wait to see you on campus on September 7th, 2021.
